Chronic Hiccups

hiccups.jpgFrom Guinness:

Charles Osborne (1894–1991) of Anthon, Iowa, USA, started hiccupping in 1922 while attempting to weigh a hog before slaughtering it. He was unable to find a cure, and continued hiccupping until February 1990, a total of 68 year!

Osborne led a normal life in which he had two wives and fathered eight children. The only discomfort from his hiccuping, he claimed, was the constant risk of losing his false teeth!

During the first few decades, he hiccupped up to 40 times a minute, slowing to 20 a minute in later years. He finally stopped in 1990 – after an estimated 430 million spasms – and died the following year.

my grandfather had chronic hiccups for the last two years of his life. He was substantially weakened by them because they made it hard to eat. So he was weak and he fell and died from a broken hip. He was in his 80s. He could have had some kind of operation to stop them, we were told, but he was too stubborn (or scared) to have the procedure.

I am amazed at the attempts to cure hiccups. whan the solution is so simple. I have cured many of the so called chronicLasting for months) hiccups, I do it with acupuncture. Usually one treatment is all it takes.Usually the patient has been everywhere and tried everything but acupuncture, I am their last resort. I use E-37,E-1, and E-33 . If you have hiccups see a Acupuncturist of TCM.

Just imagine a short woman 4′9/4′10 hiccuping about 6 times a minuite. This being for about 3/4 hours non stop. They are very loud and very noticable. This being due to while sitting on a chair she raises 2 inches from the chair. Her family say she is like a toy bear on a trampoline.Well that is me i started having them on and off for 10 years. They sometimes go away after 4 hours and then back later on.It is very painful as my stoche ends up jumping especially the sore throat from the loud hiccups. My family are the world’s worst at taking the mickey out of me.They sit there not stop laughing even turning the t.v off as they say it is much more entertaining for them. When i try to drink the drink starts going all over me as the jumps are about 2 inches from the chair.I thought it was because of my short statureas my family never gets them as much as me.When one of my sisters gets them i start laughing and mine then come back with a vengence.Mine carries on for hours while hers stops after 2 minutes. When i go out they start and people laughs and come quite close to me.Someone even said i have never heard such a loud noise come out of someone so short and she laughed.I am always followed around by people as i can walk properly without people noticeing .i try to close my mouth so they arent so loud but people notice me tiptoeing as i wals as i try to disquise the hiccups.Someone said to me was i walking on tiptoes to see what it was like to be taller but when i opened my mouth a loud hiccup came out and scared her so it served her right i suppose.PLEASE HELP as i cant stand being riddiculed for much longer this as gone on for 10 years now PLEASE

I cant stand people with very loud hiccups as sometimes they make me think the person is gonna be sick and i try to move away. Some people try to disguise them but i still think it is funny as you see their belly jumping and their throat going in and out poor souls.I still wouldnt like to have been someone who suffers badly from them.GOOD LUCK

Incureable cases of hiccups can be cured. Have a doctor cut all of the nerves involved and then maintain breathing with a mechanical respirator.

I get hiccups whenever I eat spicy food, regardless of the cuisine. Immediately after the first bite, I can feel them sneaking up on me, and by the second bite, I’ve got ‘em. They fortunately go away after a minute or two, and they always provide entertainment for others at the table…

  13. Faleh Says:

Hiccupping? Why don’t you press down your upper abdominal muscles with some force whilst breathing out until you don’t have nothing to breathe out, that way you can get rid of the hiccups immediately and avoid the embarrassment as well as not annoying people around you!

  14. Imani Says:

    Try non-stop burping.

  15. Anita Says:

i’m 16 years old, i’ve been hiccuping non-stop for the last 9 weeks…i don’t know what to do. They are very painful, i’ve lost alot of weight as i am not able to eat…has anybody figured anything out at all? burbing just makes it worse.

  16. Melanie Says:

A teaspoon of sugar seems to work or hold your breathe

I have tried this, and it worked for me. Although, I am not troubled with long-term hiccoughing. Nonetheless, I have bent over, so that the top of my head was paralell with the floor and then from that position, taken a drink of water from a cup (which is being held upright). So, in other words, try drinking water upside down. It worked for me!
