The World’s Largest Model of the Solar System

The Lakeview Museum Community Solar System, centered in Peoria, Ill., is the world’s largest scale model of the solar system. Both the size of the planets and their distance from the sun are represented on the same scale, with 42 feet equalling 1 million miles. Pluto, just 1 inch in diameter, is 40 miles out. Asteroids are scattered across the United States. Comets have been placed as far away as Ecuador, Japan, and Swaziland.
