The Black Sun Starlings
Each year from March to mid-April, the citizens of Denmark are privileged to witness a phenomenon that has become known as the “Black Sun.” Millions of European starlings congregate in massive amorphous formations across the Jutland as they migrate from their winter habitat in Southern Europe to their summer habitat in the North. The clouds of birds occasionally become so dense that they entirely block the sun. More photos from Bjarne Winkler.
