The Giant was a Dwarf
In 1920, when Adam Rainer was 21 years old, a pituitary gland which had never served him all that well in the first place began to seriously malfunction. At the time, he stood 3 ft. 10.5 in. (1.18 m) tall, a certified dwarf. Over the next decade, he grew at the rate of 3.6 in. per year. By age 32, he stood 7 ft. 2 in. (2.18 m). One can only imagine the growing pains. At his death in 1950, aged 51, Rainer measured in at 7 ft. 8 in. (2.34 m). He is the only person to have ever been both a dwarf and a giant.
We’ve been unable to find either a photograph or any substantial details about Rainer’s life. If any are known, we’d be grateful to learn more. What little else we can find online about Rainer has been said at Damn Interesting.
